Issue #129 - May Days

. May 2018 .
Sunset at Sunset
Hi!
May seem to fly by in a flash!  We had a couple of busy weekends!  Jake and Dave popped over to Freeport (Bahamas) for their annual rugby tournament.
Michelle pranced around town dressed in feathers and sequins (as one does), and Sam went to a Prom!
We did other stuff as well, these are just the highlights.
Freeport Rugby Festival
Jake and Dave headed to the airport Friday evening (a couple of weeks back). They were headed to Freeport for the 8th Annual Kids Rugby Festival.  Jake and Dave have been to every one of these since it started.  They might be the only Cayman people to have done that, although our Mate Mick has probably been to 7!
Because of the number of players and supporters going  from Cayman (114 this year), a 737 is Chartered for the one-hour trip.  It actually works out cheaper, and so much easier to do that. Otherwise you have to fly via Miami, which can be painful at times.
Unfortunately their flight was delayed for a couple of hours, but they got there in the end (around midnight!!).
Here's our ride!
Jake sneaked into the under 14s for the weekend.
Dave was part of the Cayman Rugby TV crew who streamed most of the games live.
This year there were teams from Cayman, Freeport (Bahamas), Bermuda & Key Biscayne (near Miami).
On a break
After a couple of welcome beers, a catch up and a quick snooze at the hotel, it was time to head down to the club.  Dave set up the Camera and associated kit while the kids warmed up and generally ran about.

Jake played for the Under 14s mostly but managed to get a run in an Under 16 game which he enjoyed, and won.

Off the back of the scrum. Not sure if he'd played there before!

Is that a fend or is he dragging him along for the ride?
The Under 14's had a number of games but couldn't get the "W" all weekend.  But they all had fun and enjoyed playing against some real competition for a change. Something they lack during the local season.

Another successful tour!

CayMass
Meanwhile, back in Cayman, Michelle and friends stick feathers on each other and parade about the town. It's quite an ordeal - meeting to start to get ready at 10am, with a few champers - hair and makeup, glitter and sequins and lots of feathers - then they headed into town for the start. It was a long day - finishing up at Public Beach some 5 hours later but they had a blast! Michelle was home in bed by 8pm!

Monday was a holiday, and the boys were still in Freeport.  Michelle, Lisa, Katy and Laura took part in the Discovery Day Challenge, which involved 10 different activities around the island and 30 teams competing to win $5000. They even got a cool blue Jeep to drive around in! Activities included target shooting with a rifle (Michelle was very proud of herself getting 3 from 3!), basketball, obstacle course in a gym, kyaking to find floating numbers to then use to open a combination padlock, swimming relay with objects, human spinning wheel with the person being spun having to walk the beam straight afterwards, lifesize jenga while trying to hold it steady above ground by ropes, tyre jumping and flipping, and rope climbing. It was quite wet at times during the day which made it even more challenging but it was a lot of fun!

Obstacle course
 Human spinning machine!
Kayaking - lucky it wasn't raining when we did it as people said they couldn't see through the rain
Michelle's now thinking about taking up shooting!
Lucky only two of the team had to do this one - it was really high but Lisa and Katy scooted up!

Prom Night
Sam was asked to go to the High School Prom with friends from one of the other schools here.
The girls went all out with the Hair, Nails, Make-up and Dresses - they had a lot of fun!
Michelle was on hand to oversee the preparations (or rather drink champagne and eat nibbles while waiting) and take a few pics of the gorgeous girls! Aren't they stunning!!

Swim Meet
On the same weekend, the kids had a swim meet (four sessions - Thurs & Fri pm and Sat & Sun am).
Some good swims, and some nearly there swims.  It is early in their new season so things seem to be going according to plan.

The team is raring to go on day four...

Jake heads into orbit
