Issue #154 - Lets Try a Re-start?

.  January 2021  .

Hello!
Happy New Year!  Lets hope that 2021 is a good one and doesn't have any nasty surprises!
We are very fortunate to live where we live.  Life has been pretty much back to normal for a while now, except travel.  Travel isn't a great option just now, but we hope that things open up again over time for everyone.
We had a nice time over Christmas, spending it with friends and making the most of our freedoms.  We've included a bunch of pictures which will hopefully show you what we've been up to recently.

The Christmas Season Begins
The Swim Club had their annual "Red & Green" meet.  The swimmers were put into either the Red or Green teams and they competed in a bunch of fun events in the pool which included all of the kids from the youngest newcomers right up to a few of the college returnees (including Sam).
The Family relay was a highlight, and we entered a team again (see the pic at the top).  Sam went first to build a bit of a lead.  Dave went next in an effort to even up the race...  Then Michelle, with Jake bringing it home for the win.

Dave's work Christmas party (The Great Gatsby was the theme).
Cayman Rugby TV Crew at the Club on the last game before Christmas
After a day at the club, some of the Cayman Rugby TV Crew (and Fans) enjoy a couple at Sunset House.

Christmas eve was a mid-afternoon boat trip out to the Mini Sandbar for a fun time with a few other families and friends.
Michelle and Sam - with Finn kicking a ball about in the background.

Annual Family pic.
No, we haven't adopted. On the end is Matt (Sam's BF).

Chilling in the late afternoon sun.
Time for the posed pics...  The kids always love these...

The Christmas Eve crew!
Our transport for the afternoon
Michelle & Lisa enjoyed the day
Deegs & Mick are still enjoying it

Captain Deegs & his crew

On Christmas Day we had our usual Breakfast at home and then relaxed a little before heading around to Chris & Jackie's for dinner and fun.
This is Michelle's present from the kids.
It's about 3 feet wide (hard to tell in the pic)

Musical Chairs is always a hit with the little ones

Jake & Dave are the Kings of the Christmas Beer Pong
Sam's birthday is on Boxing day. The big Two Zero!
Matt organised a lunch for a bunch of her friends (and us!).

The Rugby Club also held the Boxing day match.  Since the weather was relatively cool (for these parts) the CRTV crew were able to done their "Number Ones" for the occasion.
Any guesses who the sponsor might be?

A few days later was the Annual Family Fun Touch Day and Charity fundraiser.
The teams are made up of (mainly) nationals from their respective countries, although we had a few extra countries this year, including the Netherlands, which had no Dutch players, but looked good in their Orange tops!
The New Zealand Team was there and was the only team that never lost a game all day.  Despite that, we ended up playing in the Wooden Spoon match - that's how close the competition was. A bit like the NZ Soccer team at the World cup...  Another fun day.
We decided to have Jake's Birthday celebration a little earlier  while Sam was still here.  We took a bunch of his friends and some of our friends out for a day on the water.
It was a little blustery!
Sam escaping the Stingrays at Stingray City.
Jake and co battle it out in the middle of the Sound
Looking a bit happier now!

The oldies retreated to the top deck
Another fun day was had!

New Year and Beyond
On New Year's eve, we started at Camana Bay for the fireworks show.  Its always very impressive.

After that we headed over to Seven Mile Beach for the New Year's celebrations, with an impressive number of fireworks going off all along the beach.  You are still able to buy your own fireworks here, and there are some serious options available.

Enjoying the show in comfort

New Years Day was back to Governor's Beach for our annual gathering.  It's always a good day with great food, company and lots of laughs.

The keg(s) is always popular.
We ran a cable from the Governor's house to power the Chiller...and the Blender later.

A shortage of cups resulted in Mud Slides by the pint!

Another fun day comes to an end

A few days later, Sam flew out and returned to Ohio.  The team is back in the pool there and they seem to be trying to do the right thing regarding keeping the students safe.  The swimmers stay in their little bubble and things seem to be going fine.
"It's a little cooler here!"
A bit of snow about at times.
They are able to swim and also compete against other Universities.  It was nice to be able to watch Sam swim with her team again.

Sam's room mate (Sienna), is a Diver.

They have had a Meet against Marshall (which they won) and another impressive victory over Toledo this weekend just gone.

Michelle was back with the clip board at a local meet here.
Michelle and Jake took part in the Olympic Distance Triathlon last weekend.  Jake was in the Dream Team with an accomplished cyclist and also a Champion runner.  Michelle's team included our friend Lisa (Running) and Ria (swimming).  Michelle was on the bike, as her ankle still isn't 100% yet, but getting there!

Jake is first out of the water and gives his team a decent lead from the start.
You can see the next swimmers in the background

Michelle does a decent time, building the lead that Ria provided from her swim
Jake's cyclist (Jerome) covered the course in a pretty quick time.
Still has the energy to smile!
(Or is that a Grimace?)
Change over

Jake's runner (Dom) doesn't have much trouble in the run
Lisa brings it home for the team

Two wins!

Jake turned 18 last week, so we had a dinner for him on the waterfront in town

The next morning he had the 5k open water race which was a qualification event for Carifta, which he has already qualified for.  A couple of the younger swimmers were out for their chance to qualify and made the most of that.

Another beach day
Some feel the cold (it's not really cold) more than others.
Cayman Sunsets can be nice
Jake was in the 800m Sea Swim yesterday and came back with a Win.
Michelle officiated on a paddleboard.

That's it for now! We'll have to wait and see how the next few months go around the world.
Stay safe and keep smiling!
😊
