Issue # 146 - The October Oil

.  October 2019  .
As promised. Our pic from the Breast Cancer Foundation Dinner.
Hi there,
October is now behind us. The seasons are changing with at least one of us noticing it more than others!
We caught up with Tonya & Russ in Orlando.
Sam got a couple of visitors this month.
Michelle and Jake did a Triathlon

Orlando
Tonya and Russ (who used to live here) were down from Vancouver staying in Orlando for a week to celebrate Canadian Thanksgiving.  We had a spare weekend at the same time so popped up to catch up with them.
Welcome committee at the hotel

A couple of quiets on a Saturday afternoon!

Sky was there too
Saturday night - the quiets continued.... still going strong
Well... mostly!
We had a great time, although a fairly brief time but plenty of laughs.
We had to fly back on Sunday to see what damage Jake had done to the house while we were away.
Ohio Update
As we said earlier, as the seasons change, the temperature in some parts changes a little more drastically.
Sam is now getting a few frosts.  It's been a while since she experienced that!
Can't be that cold yet.  Still got the shorts on!
Sam's team have had a couple of swim meets during October.  One in Kentucky vs University of Kentucky and the University of South Carolina.  The other one was at Bowling Green State University.  Sam managed to score a few points, which is a big deal in college swimming.

They have a home meet coming up next week.

Bobcats celebrate Halloween!
They had a fancy dress swim meet for training on Halloween.
They must have been working hard swimming relays in those costumes!
Michelle had been in New York for work a few weeks back, but managed to stop into Ohio on her way back for the weekend.  She managed to make the Bowling green meet and then catch up with Sam back in Ohio on the Sat/Sunday.

Halloween costumes!
Someone let the cat out!

Michelle had some fun catching up with Sam (she's been away since August) and also a few of Sam's swimming and Uni friends. She went to their Halloween party as well.
Someone's got the horns on!

Breakfast at the aptly titled "Hangover"
Dave had organised to go up the following week for "Dad's Weekend".  The university has a bunch of events strung out over the year, including Mum's Weekend and a Family one as well.  We'll need to check the timing on those ones.
It was a bit chilly up there! 0 degrees on Saturday morning. 1 Degree on Sunday....  Although with the Sun out it was quite nice.
Somewhere over Ohio?

Sadly for Sam, they didn't make the Monty Python Show.
They did make the Michael Kosta (stand up comedy) on the Friday night which was a bit of a laugh.
On the Saturday morning Sam had training, so Dave had a sleep-in in his little Cottage out in the sticks, then they went for Breakfast/lunch before heading to the "Convo" (Convocation Centre) to watch the Bobcats Basketball team play one of the other universities.

Some on-court action...
The Bobcats won, so that was good.  There was also supposed to be a Rugby game, but that was canceled for some reason.  Shame!
Instead, the swimmers and a bunch of Dads went to one of the local breweries to taste the local brews.  They weren't too shabby!
Literally in the Brewery.
After that it was off to town to check out a few of the local bars.  Being Dad's weekend, the town was packed solid and all of the bars were really busy.  They managed to make their way to a few though!
Grace, Sam, Dave & Eric (Grace's Dad)
Sunday was a quiet day.  Breakfast then Dave snoozed while Sam did some homework.  Dinner followed, and then Dave had to hit the road and head back to Columbus for his early morning flight on Monday.
Sam will be back in Cayman for American Thanksgiving later in the month and we all look forward to that.

 Randoms
This is a very large vessel that lays cable/piping around the ocean.
Many picked it as an oil rig, but I don't think there's much oil in these parts!

Sunset from the Rugby Club after a day at the sevens

A grim looking morning at the beach for Jake's open-water training...

We get the snappiest of dressers at Governor's Beach! This guy spent about 15 minutes trying to put his fins on, but after falling several times and not being able to master them, gave up and went without them.
Another Gov's Beach Sunday sunset
Jake cooking dinner at our favourite Indian spot.
 Triathlon
Michelle and Jake did the Triathlon while Dave was up in Ohio with Sam.  Jake swam the swim leg for a Men's team.
He was first out of the water with a minute or two break on the rest of the field.
Michelle did the individual race (also Olympic distance)
Out of the water and heading over to the bike.
Seems to be doing pretty good!
Michelle was 4th woman overall and 1st in her age group.
Jake's team won the Men's division.

Some of the other Stingrays swimmers after their swim leg.
That's it for October.
November is already started!
Michelle heads to Atlanta to do the "Tough Mudder!"
Sam has a swim meet in Athens.
Jake has the Pirate's Week 5km Sea Swim
Dave is.... errrmmm doing something important, possibly....

Later!
