. August 2015 .
Hi again!
August is done. Some more travelling...for a change. Sam and Michelle headed to Vancouver, via Tampa. Dave made a few more trips to the airport and back. We got a few dives in - it had been a while! A little bit of Touch as well.
The summer holidays finally come to a close, and the kids headed back to school this week.

CRTV End of Season Awards Dinner and Galah Ball
The Rugby season ended a month or so back, and the Cayman Rugby TV crew took a break over summer before holding their annual awards dinner and Galah ball. The crew got all dressed up and headed on out for a couple of quiets and a laugh.

In fact, the awards didn't happen in the end. Someone forgot. Doesn't matter, we can just do it twice next time.

Touch
The Summer Touch league has just finished. Finals day is next weekend (12 Sep). Michelle's team finished the round in 4th spot, so they could be in with a chance to take out the spoils in the Competitive Division on Finals day.
Jake's Team finished in Third spot (Social Division) so they too are in with a chance to do some damage on finals day.
Dave's team, who were probably the most consistent performers of all teams amongst both Divisions will also be there on finals day. They did have a couple of hiccups during the season which resulted in them coming away with a higher score than the team they played. They weren't sure how this came about and the other teams were spotted burning their shirts in the carpark later. We can only assume that this was as a mark of respect. They are expected to continue this rich vein of form into finals day and will most likely walk away from the pitch with their heads held high and into the bar where they will keep holding their heads high for the majority of the day.
We'll keep you posted on progress...and also the touch results.
Tampa & Vancouver
Michelle and Sam went to Vancouver to visit our Canadian friends (Tonya, Russ & Co) but on the way they stopped for a two day trip in Tampa, Florida to go to Busch gardens...and some shopping.

Busch Gardens was great fun - they went on almost all the rides at least once, and some of them several times over two days. They visited all the animals - there were some really cute baby gorillas, as well as elephants, giraffes, zebra, rhino, a hippo, lions and tigers to name a few. They went on the train ride around the park so get a better view of some of them (and to save them walking all the way around!). They went to a few shows, including one with lots of different live animals performing, and another with ice skaters and acrobats - was pretty amazing! The weather was hot in the mornings and early afternoon, with thunder, lightning and rain at various times in the late afternoon, putting a halt on rides and giving them a good reason to leave the park and go shopping! They managed to get back to the night show and fireworks on the last night - lots of singing and dancing and acrobatics, followed by fireworks which were dampened by a storm passing through. A very busy but fun weekend before heading off to Vancouver.

Hmmm...not sure if this is the best way to catch a ride! |
Vancouver put on some amazing weather for them while they were there and they managed to do loads of cool stuff - they went to the beach, hiking/climbing up the Grouse Grind (well Michelle and Tonya did that while the others slept in!), the log show, biking around Stanley park and Vancouver harbour, movie and theatre in the park, a little bit of shopping (yes, again!), a challenging 2 1/2 hour hike up a mountain at Sasquatch on the way to Whistler, going to top of the Blackcomb mountains and riding the Peak to Peak gondola, coming down the other side to do the new 2km zipline between the mountains, running around the lake, and a little bit of relaxing. Absolutely amazing views from each of the mountains - could see for miles. Michelle was very nervous about the zipline - it was very high up and had a huge drop but once she jumped she loved it! On Michelle's last day she decided to go for a run around a lovely nearby lake, and as she was coming to the end of the drive a black bear came towards her hissing - she hadn't seen it and she'd given it a fright but nothing like the fright she got - she did her best to move away swiftly without making a run for it! She did carry on and do her run but what a way to end her vacation! After Michelle came back for work, Sam was lucky to stay on another week and hang out with the O'Connor gang, the highlight being another bungy jump!

Michelle headed back to Cayman and Sam stayed for another week. They went back to Whistler for a bit, did the bungy, swam in the lake, then back to Vancouver and did another movie in the park and hung out around the place, generally having fun!

Sam's last day spent at the lake |
Sam flew back to Cayman via Toronto. She didn't get much sleep on either flight and it was a long night/day for her. By the time she arrived on Sunday lunchtime, she was wrecked! Straight to bed for a few hours. Luckily school didn't start until Tuesday so she was able to recover for a little longer!

Well, that's about it for August! We are pretty sure September will be quieter. Although, Michelle is off to Chicago this weekend to play Gaelic. Dave will, no doubt, make a couple of trips to the airport and the Touch finals day is next weekend. After that we'll play it by ear.
See ya!
