. September 2016 .
Hi there! We are feeling pretty lucky just now. Hurricane Matthew was originally heading in our direction, but turned off a few days ago and headed towards Haiti, Cuba and onto the Bahamas. Our friends in the Bahamas have been busy putting up their hurricane shutters, and preparing for the worst. It's passing them now enroute to Florida, where we have other friends. Lets hope it doesn't turn out too bad and they come through OK, although reports dont sound that positive at the moment....

This is the course over the last few days. As at now, it is nearing the US coast. |
So, this month has been relatively quiet for us. No traveling. A little bit of beach time and few other random activities have filled in the weekends.
Touch Finals
As we hinted last month, the finals of the summer touch competition were held in September. Jake's team, as predicted won their Semi final and advance to the final of the Social Division. And they won! They did get tested in the final and it was quite close at half time.
However, the team is full of under 15 year olds with boundless energy and they eventually wore the opposition down to a sweaty pile and went on to win by 6 - 3. Jake scored a well worked try as well!

Champs! |
Michelles Team also had a win in their semi and they advanced to the final later in the day. Dave's team played a hard fort tit-for-tat game and eventually went down by a point at the end. It was probably a good thing, as there would have been tears if Dave's team had beaten Michelle's in the final...
As it was Michelle's team went on to take a comprehensive victory over the team that beat Daves, so they were pretty happy too!
Random
|
Michelle took part in a Duathlon last weekend. Did pretty well with a podium finish! |
|
A random shower just before heading home from work managed to slow things down around town! Being a very low-lying and flat island, the water doesn't drain away that quickly! |
|
"The Cubans are Coming!"
In fact they are already here. There are often crudely constructed boats packed with Cuban refugees heading to Honduras with the hope of making it to the US. If they land here, they are locked up and mostly deported back to Cuba.

A rowdy wedding at the beach disrupts our tranquil sunday afternoon. |
|
It's always nice just sitting, relaxing and watching the sea and the sun on a sunday afternoon |
|
Or you can stand and do the same... |
|
Jake's on a mission |
The kid's swim team decided to meet up on the beach last sunday and hang out and have some fun together. No adults involved. They just got organised and did a bunch of games and activities throughout the afternoon. It was refreshing to see so many teenagers having fun without having a smart phone in one hand...

The sandcastle competition: A Pineapple, Squidward and Patrick? |

Race time! |
Jake's team was winning until he face planted!
|
Just like any swim team...they hang out in a school. |
Swim Meet
And what blog would be complete without a swim meet. The kids had a swim meet last weekend - the first of the new season. Longer events on the Friday night, and a sprint meet on Saturday morning.

Jake sporting the fancy speedos! |
|
The big kids now take on a mentoring role with the littlies, which is quite cool to see. |
So, really, that's about it! Quiet aye!
Next month:
Michelle and Dave head off to Orlando for the US Touch Nationals.
A potential swim meet in Jamaica - dependent upon minimal effects from the hurricane.
Touch End of Season Dinner - always a classic.
See you soon! .
